This 2026 80×16 utility trailer is a silver aluminum, tandem axle open trailer with an 80-inch wide deck, 16 ft of length and a 7,010 lb GVWR. The extra width is the selling point: it gives you more room between the rails for wide machines like side-by-sides and big mowers.

What you get with this 80×16 utility trailer

The deck is 80 inches wide and 16 ft long, about 2.03 x 4.88 m. Most standard landscape trailers are 77 inches wide or less, so those few extra inches matter when you’re loading a wide side-by-side, a zero-turn with a big deck, or two machines side by side.

Aluminum keeps the trailer light and rust-free. Two axles carry the 7,010 lb (about 3,180 kg) rating and keep the trailer steady on the road.

Why the 80-inch width matters

Side-by-sides have grown wider over the years, and many sport models are now well over 60 inches across. On a narrow trailer, they barely clear the fenders. An 80×16 utility trailer gives you more breathing room, so loading is less of a tightrope walk and you’re less likely to scrape a fender or tire.

Two quads also sit side by side more comfortably, which keeps the weight centred and leaves the back of the deck free for gear. If you ride, this overview of all-terrain vehicles covers the common machine types and sizes.

Towing an 80×16 utility trailer

The 7,010 lb GVWR covers the trailer and everything on it. Read up on gross vehicle weight rating if needed, and use a vehicle rated for the loaded weight with a brake controller. Keep about 60 percent of the load ahead of the axles and centred side to side.

The wider deck is still within normal trailer width limits in most places, but check your local rules if you’re unsure.

Loading a side-by-side

Line the machine up straight with the gate on level ground. Drive on slowly in low range, with someone guiding you. Stop with most of the weight just ahead of the axles. Strap the frame or wheels at four points, never through suspension parts that move.

Looking after it

Wash it after dusty or salty trips, grease the bearings once a year and check brakes and tires before long drives. Test the lights every time you hook up your 80×16 utility trailer.

Mistakes to avoid

Strapping through suspension is a common one. Overloading is another. The third is loading off-centre, which makes a wide trailer lean. The fourth is skipping the brake check.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your 80×16 utility trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

A few words you will see when you compare any 80×16 utility trailer with other models:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer. This is what you can actually carry.
Tongue weight: the downward weight on your hitch, usually about 10 to 15 percent of the loaded weight.
Coupler: the part on the front of the trailer that locks onto your hitch ball.
Ramp gate: the rear gate that folds down so you can drive machines on.
Tandem axle: two axles that share the load and make the trailer more stable.

How owners use an 80×16 utility trailer

Trail riders carry a side-by-side and gear for the weekend. Lawn crews run wide zero-turns. Farmers move quads and fencing. Anyone with wide machines finds an 80×16 utility trailer far less stressful to load.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block. Aluminum does not rust, but the steel axles, hubs and springs still like to stay out of standing water. Move the trailer now and then so the tires do not flat-spot. Keep wet leaves and mulch off the deck. A coupler lock keeps your 80×16 utility trailer where you left it.

Compare other big open trailers

The 7×16 aluminum trailer is the same length but narrower. The 7×20 aluminum trailer is longer, and the 7×14 aluminum utility trailer is shorter and easier to park.

Measure before you buy

Width is the reason to buy this trailer, so measure your machine carefully. Check the widest point across the tires, and include any mirrors, wheel flares or deck overhang. Then ask us for the clear width between the fenders on this unit and compare. If the numbers work with a few inches to spare, loading will be easy. If your machine is narrow, a standard 77-inch trailer may be all you need. For wide side-by-sides and big zero-turns, an 80×16 utility trailer removes a lot of stress from every loading.

Accessories worth adding

A few cheap extras make an open trailer much more useful. Ratchet straps and wheel chocks keep machines and loads in place. A cargo net or tarp stops garden waste and light items blowing out. A spare wheel and a jack that fits the trailer can save a ruined day. A coupler lock stops anyone hitching up and driving off with your 80×16 utility trailer. Lawn crews often add a trimmer rack or a lockable tongue box for fuel and hand tools.

Before you buy

Check your vehicle tow rating and hitch ball size first. Then think about the heaviest load you carry most weeks, not the biggest job you do once a year, and measure the widest machine you plan to put on the deck. Finally, measure where you will park the trailer at home, including the tongue. If all of that lines up, this 80×16 utility trailer will fit the way you work. If you are not sure, send us your vehicle and what you plan to carry and we will give you a straight answer.

Driving with a trailer

Give yourself more room to stop, because a loaded trailer adds a lot of weight behind you. Take corners a little wider so the trailer wheels do not clip the kerb. On the motorway, keep a steady speed and avoid sudden steering. If the trailer starts to sway, ease off the accelerator gently and keep the wheel straight rather than braking hard. When reversing, small movements of the wheel go a long way. Practise in an empty car park the first few times you tow your 80×16 utility trailer, and it soon feels normal.

Common questions

Will my side-by-side fit on this 80×16 utility trailer?

Most do. Ask us for the width between the fenders and compare it with your machine.

Is it legal on the road?

An 80-inch deck is within normal width limits in most places. Check your local rules.

What can tow it?

A half-ton pickup or large SUV with the right rating and a brake controller.

Does it need registration?

Rules vary by country and region. Check locally.

Can I carry two quads side by side?

Usually, yes. The extra width is a big help here. Measure both machines and check the combined weight.

Can I leave it outside?

Yes. Keep it on firm ground, check the tires before use and lock the coupler if it is visible from the road.

How often should I grease the bearings?

Once a year for most owners, or sooner if the trailer has been in deep water or does a lot of distance.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your 80×16 utility trailer, and we will explain the options and timing.

What to check when it arrives

Check lights, brakes, tire pressures and wheel nuts, and work the gate. Ask for the brake service interval.
