This 2026 7×16 enclosed trailer is a charcoal steel cargo trailer on tandem axles, with a rear ramp door, 84 inches of inside height and a 10,141 lb GVWR. The extra two feet over a 7×14 sound small, but they’re the difference between fitting a mower plus tools, or a mower plus tools plus a second machine.

What you get with this 7×16 enclosed trailer

The floor measures 7 by 16 ft, roughly 2.1 x 4.9 m, with 84 inches (2.13 m) of headroom. The rear ramp lets you roll machines in, and the 10,141 lb (4,600 kg) rating gives real payload once you take off the trailer’s own weight. Charcoal paint keeps it looking clean between washes.

Is 16 feet the right length?

Measure the longest thing you’ll carry and add a couple of feet for straps and walking room. If you keep a workbench at the front, add its depth too. Many crews find 14 ft is tight after a year and wish they’d gone longer. A 7×16 still parks in a normal driveway, which is a nice balance.

Towing a 7×16 enclosed trailer

Loaded heavy, it needs a 3/4-ton class vehicle and a brake controller. The gross vehicle weight rating includes the trailer. Two axles make it steady on the road, and it handles crosswind better than you’d expect for its size.

Loading two machines

Put the heavier one in first, just ahead of the axles. The lighter one goes behind it. Strap both at four corners and stow small tools in bins so they don’t slide.

Mistakes to avoid

Parking the heavy machine at the back to make unloading easier is tempting. Don’t. It lightens the tongue and the trailer will sway.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your 7×16 enclosed trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

Words that come up when you shop for a 7×16 enclosed trailer:

GVWR: the most the trailer and everything inside can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer.
Interior height: the clear height inside, which decides whether you can stand up and what fits through the door.
Barn doors: two hinged rear doors that swing open.
Ramp door: a rear door that folds down to make a loading ramp.
E-track: slotted rails on the walls or floor for straps, shelves and hooks.

How owners use a 7×16 enclosed trailer

Lawn crews carry a zero-turn and a push mower plus trimmers. Mobile mechanics build in shelves and a compressor. In winter some owners carry a snowmobile. A 7×16 enclosed trailer is a good all-round size.

Storing it

Park on level ground with the jack on a block and crack a vent so moisture does not build up inside. Check roof seams and door seals before winter, since water in the floor is what ages an enclosed trailer fastest. Move it now and then so the tires do not flat-spot, and use a coupler lock and a good door lock to keep your 7×16 enclosed trailer secure.

Accessories worth adding

E-track rails on the walls are the most useful upgrade for any enclosed trailer. Straps, shelves, bike chocks and hooks clip on and move where you need them. Add a battery LED light for loading at night, a rubber floor mat so things do not slide, and a coupler lock plus a disc lock on the door latch. Some owners fit a roof vent, a spare wheel mount and a small fire extinguisher inside their 7×16 enclosed trailer.

Before you buy

Write down the biggest things you plan to carry and measure them, including height. Check your vehicle tow rating and hitch, and make sure you have somewhere to park a tall trailer at home. If you will load bikes, mowers or carts, a ramp door helps. If you load from a dock or forklift, barn doors are easier. With those answers, it is simple to tell whether this 7×16 enclosed trailer is right for you. If you are unsure, send us your list and we will help.

Driving with an enclosed trailer

A tall, flat-fronted trailer catches wind, so slow down on exposed roads and keep both hands on the wheel when trucks pass. Fuel use goes up compared with an open trailer, so plan stops on long trips. You cannot see through the box, which makes good towing mirrors essential. A cheap wireless rear camera makes reversing your 7×16 enclosed trailer much less stressful. Watch overhead clearance at car parks, fuel stations and drive-throughs.

Common questions

Can a 7×16 enclosed trailer carry a car?

Usually not. 7 ft wide is too narrow for most cars. Look at a car hauler.

Can I stand up inside?

At 84 inches, most people can.

Does it have tie-downs?

Ask us for the exact anchor setup.

Can I convert it into a workshop or camper?

Plenty of people do, with insulation, shelving, lights and a vent. Check local rules if you plan to sleep in it.

How do I stop condensation inside?

Keep a vent open, avoid storing wet gear for long periods and air it out on dry days.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your 7×16 enclosed trailer.

What to check when it arrives

Work the ramp, check seals, floor, lights, brakes and tire pressure.

Parking and storing between jobs

Park on firm, level ground where you can. Chock a wheel on both sides if the ground slopes even slightly, and put a board under the jack foot on soft soil or hot asphalt so it doesn’t sink. A coupler lock costs little and stops the easiest kind of theft.

Lift the tongue a touch higher than the back so rain runs off instead of pooling. If your 7×16 enclosed trailer will sit for months, take some weight off the tires with stands and cover the coupler so it doesn’t fill with grit.

Wiring and lights

Most electrical trouble on a trailer comes down to a bad ground. If a light flickers or the indicators blink at a strange speed, clean the ground point on the frame and the plug pins before buying new bulbs. A little dielectric grease on the plug keeps water out.

LED lights draw less power and last longer, but they still need a clean connection. Test everything on your 7×16 enclosed trailer with a helper before each trip. It takes thirty seconds and saves a roadside stop.

Registration and paperwork

Rules vary by country and region. Most places want trailers registered and plated, and many ask for brakes once the loaded weight passes a set limit. Some also need a separate safety inspection. Check what applies where you live before delivery so the paperwork is ready and you can use your 7×16 enclosed trailer straight away. We supply the documents you need from our side, including the VIN and build details, and we can answer questions about weights and ratings.

Backing up without the stress

Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand left and the back of the trailer goes left. That one trick sorts out most of the confusion. Go slowly, make small corrections, and get out to look whenever you aren’t sure. Nobody minds waiting ten seconds; everybody minds a dented gate post.

Longer trailers are easier to reverse than short ones because they react more slowly, so don’t let the length of a 7×16 enclosed trailer put you off. Half an hour in an empty car park with a couple of cones does more than any amount of reading.
