This 2023 24 ft enclosed trailer is an 8.5 ft wide black steel cargo trailer on tandem axles, with a rear ramp door, 84 inches of inside height and a 7,000 lb GVWR. It’s long enough for a car, a race setup or a full house move, and it’s for sale now.

What you get with this 24 ft enclosed trailer

The box is 8.5 by 24 ft, about 2.6 x 7.3 m, with 84 inches (2.13 m) of headroom. At 8.5 ft wide you have room between the wheel wells for many cars and side-by-sides. The ramp drops at the rear so anything on wheels drives in. Black paint looks sharp, though it does get warm inside in strong sun.

Carrying a car

Most people buying a 24 ft box want to move a car out of the weather. An enclosed car carrier trailer keeps stone chips, rain and prying eyes away. Watch the numbers though: with a 7,000 lb GVWR, take off the trailer’s own weight and check your car fits what’s left. A light sports car is fine. A heavy SUV probably isn’t.

Towing a 24 ft enclosed trailer

A long trailer needs a tow vehicle rated for the loaded weight, a brake controller and a bit of patience on corners. The gross vehicle weight rating includes the trailer itself. Swing wide on turns, because the back cuts in.

Loading a long trailer

Place the car or main load so its weight sits just forward of the axles. Strap wheels, not suspension. Use the space at the front for tyres, tools and spares, strapped down.

Mistakes to avoid

Assuming any car will fit under the weight limit is the main one. Ask us first. Another is forgetting how much the long box catches wind.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your 24 ft enclosed trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

Words that come up when you shop for a 24 ft enclosed trailer:

GVWR: the most the trailer and everything inside can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer.
Interior height: the clear height inside, which decides whether you can stand up and what fits through the door.
Barn doors: two hinged rear doors that swing open.
Ramp door: a rear door that folds down to make a loading ramp.
E-track: slotted rails on the walls or floor for straps, shelves and hooks.

How owners use a 24 ft enclosed trailer

Track-day drivers carry a car, tyres and tools. Families move a whole house in fewer trips. Some owners use a 24 ft enclosed trailer as mobile storage or a pop-up shop at markets.

Storing it

Park on level ground with the jack on a block and crack a vent so moisture does not build up inside. Check roof seams and door seals before winter, since water in the floor is what ages an enclosed trailer fastest. Move it now and then so the tires do not flat-spot, and use a coupler lock and a good door lock to keep your 24 ft enclosed trailer secure.

Compare other cargo trailers

For a heavier rating at 20 ft, see the 20 ft enclosed trailer. The enclosed car trailer is built around vehicles. Need something smaller? The 7×16 enclosed trailer is a good step down.

Accessories worth adding

E-track rails on the walls are the most useful upgrade for any enclosed trailer. Straps, shelves, bike chocks and hooks clip on and move where you need them. Add a battery LED light for loading at night, a rubber floor mat so things do not slide, and a coupler lock plus a disc lock on the door latch. Some owners fit a roof vent, a spare wheel mount and a small fire extinguisher inside their 24 ft enclosed trailer.

Before you buy

Write down the biggest things you plan to carry and measure them, including height. Check your vehicle tow rating and hitch, and make sure you have somewhere to park a tall trailer at home. If you will load bikes, mowers or carts, a ramp door helps. If you load from a dock or forklift, barn doors are easier. With those answers, it is simple to tell whether this 24 ft enclosed trailer is right for you. If you are unsure, send us your list and we will help.

Driving with an enclosed trailer

A tall, flat-fronted trailer catches wind, so slow down on exposed roads and keep both hands on the wheel when trucks pass. Fuel use goes up compared with an open trailer, so plan stops on long trips. You cannot see through the box, which makes good towing mirrors essential. A cheap wireless rear camera makes reversing your 24 ft enclosed trailer much less stressful. Watch overhead clearance at car parks, fuel stations and drive-throughs.

Common questions

Will my car fit in this 24 ft enclosed trailer?

Send us the make and model. We’ll check the width, length and weight.

Is this trailer new?

It’s a 2023 model year. Ask us for its condition and history.

What tow vehicle do I need?

One rated for the full loaded weight, usually a full-size pickup.

Can I convert it into a workshop or camper?

Plenty of people do, with insulation, shelving, lights and a vent. Check local rules if you plan to sleep in it.

How do I stop condensation inside?

Keep a vent open, avoid storing wet gear for long periods and air it out on dry days.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your 24 ft enclosed trailer.

What to check when it arrives

Work the ramp, check seals, floor, lights, brakes and tires.

Matching the hitch

Ball size has to match the coupler exactly. A 2 in ball in a 2 5/16 in coupler can pop off over a bump. Check the rating stamped on the ball, the drawbar and the receiver, and go by the lowest of the three.

Ride height matters too. Your 24 ft enclosed trailer should sit level or a fraction nose down when hitched. If it tips back, get a drop or rise drawbar to fix it rather than living with it, because a nose-high trailer sways more and wears its tires unevenly.

Backing up without the stress

Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand left and the back of the trailer goes left. That one trick sorts out most of the confusion. Go slowly, make small corrections, and get out to look whenever you aren’t sure. Nobody minds waiting ten seconds; everybody minds a dented gate post.

Longer trailers are easier to reverse than short ones because they react more slowly, so don’t let the length of a 24 ft enclosed trailer put you off. Half an hour in an empty car park with a couple of cones does more than any amount of reading.

Tires and wheel bearings

Trailer tires age faster than they wear. A set can look fine on tread and still be cracked in the sidewalls after five or six years, especially if the trailer sits outside in the sun. Check the date code on the sidewall when you buy spares, and keep them at the pressure printed on the tire, not the one on your tow vehicle door.

Bearings want fresh grease about once a year or every 12,000 miles (20,000 km), whichever comes first. Feel the hubs with the back of your hand at a fuel stop. Warm is normal. Too hot to touch means stop and look before going further. A spare wheel that fits your 24 ft enclosed trailer is cheap insurance, so carry one.
