This 2025 living quarters horse trailer is a white 3 horse slant load gooseneck with 14 ft of living space and a 14,000 lb GVWR. It’s built for riders who spend whole weekends at shows, trail rides and events and want somewhere comfortable to sleep, eat and change right next to their horses.

What you get with this living quarters horse trailer

Up front, the 14 ft living quarters give you a space to stay overnight instead of booking a hotel. Behind that, the slant load horse area takes three horses. The gooseneck hitch sits over your truck’s rear axle, which makes a heavy trailer like this far more stable than a bumper pull.

The exact layout of the quarters, like the bed, kitchen, bathroom and seating, varies between builds. Ask us for photos and the floor plan of this unit so you know exactly what’s inside.

Why buy a living quarters horse trailer

Hotels, early starts and long drives add up quickly. A living quarters horse trailer lets you stay on the grounds, check on your horses during the night and wake up a few steps from the barn. It’s like a small recreational vehicle and a horse trailer in one.

Fourteen feet of living space is a good middle size. It’s roomy enough for two people to stay comfortably for a weekend without making the trailer too long to handle. For more on trailer styles, see this overview of horse trailers.

Towing a living quarters horse trailer

The 14,000 lb GVWR (about 6,350 kg) covers the trailer, horses, tack, water, hay and everything in the living quarters. Read up on gross vehicle weight rating if needed. You’ll need a gooseneck hitch in your truck bed and a truck rated for the full weight, usually a 3/4-ton or 1-ton pickup, plus a brake controller.

Drive smoothly. Horses balance the whole trip, and a heavy trailer takes longer to stop. Plan fuel stops and parking with the overall length in mind.

Setting up at an event

Park on level ground, lower the jacks and level the trailer. Hook up power and water if the site has them. Check the horses, offer water and hay, and set up your living space. A short checklist on the fridge helps you remember everything each time.

Looking after it

Clean out the horse area after every trip and lift mats now and then to dry the floor. In the living quarters, check seals around windows, doors and the roof, and look after the water system, especially before freezing weather. Service the bearings, brakes and tires regularly. A living quarters horse trailer that’s cared for keeps its value well.

Mistakes to avoid

Overloading is the first. Water tanks, gear and horses add up fast. Check the total weight.

Skipping winter prep is the second. Frozen water lines cause expensive damage. The third is leaving wet bedding under mats. The fourth is underestimating length when parking or turning.

How owners use a living quarters horse trailer

Show riders stay on the grounds all weekend. Trail riders camp in remote spots with their horses. Families travel together and save on hotels. Some owners use a living quarters horse trailer as a holiday home when it isn’t carrying horses.

Making the most of the living space

A living quarters horse trailer works best when everything has a place. Keep heavy items low and close to the front, near the gooseneck, so weight sits over the truck. Use bins and baskets in cupboards so things don’t fly around on rough roads. Bring a short extension lead and a water hose so you can hook up quickly at events.

If the site has no power, plan ahead. Check how this unit is set up for batteries, gas and water so you know how long you can stay off-grid. Many owners keep a small kit with spare fuses, a torch and basic tools in the living quarters.

Accessories worth adding

Levelling blocks, wheel chocks, a fresh water hose, a sewer hose if the quarters have a tank, and a surge protector for site power. For the horse area, add hay nets, trailer ties and a first aid kit. A camera system lets you watch the horses from the cab. A gooseneck coupler lock keeps your living quarters horse trailer safe when unhitched.

Pre-trip checklist

Gooseneck latched and pinned, safety chains and breakaway cable attached
Brakes and all lights tested
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Jacks fully raised
Living area secured: doors, drawers, fridge and windows closed
Horse area checked: mats, dividers, latches, hay and water

A living quarters horse trailer has more to check than a plain horse trailer, so a written list helps.

Storing a living quarters horse trailer

Clean the horse area and lift the mats to dry the floor. In the living quarters, empty the fridge and leave it propped open, and drain or winterize the water system before freezing weather. Keep batteries charged, check roof and window seals, and park on level ground with the jacks down. Move the trailer every few weeks if you can, so the tires don’t flat-spot.

Trailer terms explained

Terms worth knowing when you shop for a living quarters horse trailer.

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the trailer’s empty weight. This is what you can actually carry.
Slant load: horses stand at an angle across the trailer, which keeps it shorter.
Gooseneck: a hitch that sits in the truck bed over the rear axle, which makes heavy trailers more stable.
LQ: short for living quarters, the camper-style space at the front.
Shore power: mains power you plug into at a campsite or show ground.
Breakaway cable: a cable that applies the trailer brakes if it ever comes off the hitch.

Before you buy

Ask us for the floor plan, photos of the living quarters and the stall sizes. Check your truck is rated for the full loaded weight and has a gooseneck hitch, or plan to fit one. Think about where you will park and store a trailer this size, and whether you need power or water hookups at home. Finally, check the licence rules where you live, since heavy gooseneck combinations often need a different licence class.

If anything is unclear, send us your questions along with your truck details. We will give you an honest answer about whether this trailer suits the way you travel.
