This 2026 aluminum snowmobile trailer is a 7×21 enclosed, tandem axle model with a rear ramp door, 84 inches of interior height and a 6,990 lb GVWR. It comes in black and charcoal, and it’s made for people who’d rather spend the weekend riding than scraping ice off their sleds.

Why buy an aluminum snowmobile trailer

Road salt and slush eat steel. Aluminum doesn’t rust the same way, so an aluminum frame and skin keep looking and working right for much longer after a few seasons of winter roads. It’s also lighter than a steel trailer of the same size, which means more of your tow rating goes to sleds and gear instead of the trailer. Aluminium is used in boats and aircraft for the same reasons.

Room for several sleds

At 7 by 21 feet (about 2.1 by 6.4 metres), there’s space for more than one sled plus helmets, fuel cans and a cooler. Exactly how many fit depends on your machines, so measure their length and ski width and send us the numbers if you want us to check. The 84-inch (2.1 m) height lets you walk in without ducking and clears tall windshields.

Loading and towing an aluminum snowmobile trailer

The rear ramp is how most riders load. Drive the sled up and in, with no separate ramps to wrestle in the snow. Strap each sled to the floor at the front and back. Sleds slide on a wet floor even when the trailer is barely moving.

With two axles and a 6,990 lb GVWR (roughly 3,171 kg), this trailer sits steady at highway speed behind a full-size SUV or half-ton pickup with the right tow rating. Check your vehicle’s limits, and read up on how GVWR works if you haven’t towed this size before.

Load heavier sleds toward the front, just ahead of the axles, and keep fuel cans upright and strapped. A long enclosed trailer catches crosswinds, so slow down on exposed stretches and leave more braking distance on icy roads than you would without a trailer.

Winter care

Aluminum handles salt far better than steel, but it isn’t magic. Wash the underside and the wheels after salty trips, since salt sitting against steel parts like axles, hubs and fasteners still causes corrosion. Check the ramp hinges and spring assist, test the lights before every trip, and look at the door seals so snow melt doesn’t soak the floor.

At the end of the season, give the trailer a proper wash, grease the bearings and leave it parked on level ground with the tires off the dirt if you can.

Before the first trip of the season, hook up and check everything at home: lights, brakes, tire pressure, ramp springs and door seals. It is a lot easier to sort out a dead bulb in your driveway than in a dark car park at the trailhead with frozen fingers.

Useful all year

An enclosed aluminum snowmobile trailer doesn’t have to sit idle when the snow melts. Swap the sleds for ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes or race gear and it earns its keep in summer too. Some owners use it as dry, lockable storage at the cabin. If you’re new to the sport, the snowmobile page is a decent primer.

Other snowmobile trailers we sell

Need a longer box? The 7×25 aluminum snowmobile trailer adds four feet. On a tighter budget, the used 7×19 snowmobile trailer is a solid way in. For general cargo with a ramp, the 7×16 cargo trailer with rear ramp is worth a look. You can also browse the whole snowmobile trailer range.

Sizing your sled trailer

Measure each sled from the tip of the skis to the back of the track or snow flap, then add a little room to move around. Add the lengths together if you load nose to tail, or compare ski width with the inside width if you load side by side. A 21 ft box gives you real options, which is why plenty of riders want this length in an aluminum snowmobile trailer that has to carry a group’s sleds.

Do not forget the gear. Helmets, jackets, spare belts, fuel and tools take up more room than you think, and keeping it all in the trailer keeps your vehicle clean and dry.

Extras riders add

Ski guides or glides on the floor help sleds roll in straight and protect the floor. Interior lights, a few hooks for wet gear and a small heater make an aluminum snowmobile trailer much nicer on cold days. A coupler lock is a must if the trailer sits in a car park all day while you ride.

Hitching up in the cold

Cold weather makes everything harder, so make hitching a routine. Clear snow and ice off the coupler and hitch ball first. A frozen latch can look closed when it isn’t. Close it, pin it, cross the chains and clip the breakaway cable to the truck. Then plug in the lights and check them, because salt and slush in the plug cause more flickering lights than anything else.

A little dielectric grease on the plug pins of your aluminum snowmobile trailer, plus a cover for the plug when it’s not connected, will save you a lot of roadside frustration.

Mistakes riders make with sled trailers

Loading too much weight at the back of an aluminum snowmobile trailer is common, especially when the last sled in is the heaviest. Load the heaviest machine first, at the front.

Weak strapping is another. A sled sitting on glides moves with very little force. Strap the front and the rear to separate anchor points.

Forgetting the height is the third. At 84 inches inside, the outside is taller still, so watch for low garage doors, car park height bars and covered fuel stations.

The fourth is putting the trailer away wet at the end of winter. Melted snow and salt sitting inside all summer is what ruins floors and fittings. Open it up, dry it out and wash it before storage.

Who this aluminum snowmobile trailer suits

It’s built for riders who head out most weekends with friends or family and need to carry more than one sled plus gear. It suits clubs and guides who move several machines at once. It also works for anyone who wants an aluminum snowmobile trailer they can use for ATVs, bikes or race gear in summer, so it earns its keep all year instead of sitting in the yard.

If you only carry one sled a short distance, a smaller or open trailer costs less. If you travel far, ride in groups or want your gear dry and locked, a long enclosed trailer is the better buy.

What to check when it arrives

When your aluminum snowmobile trailer arrives, open the ramp and doors and make sure they work smoothly. Check the floor, the seals and the inside lights. Test the outside lights and brakes with your vehicle, set the tire pressures and ask for the bearing service interval. Then load a sled at home before your first trip, so the first time isn’t in a dark car park.

Common questions

How many sleds fit in a 7×21 aluminum snowmobile trailer?

It depends on the length and ski stance of your machines. Send us the model or measurements and we’ll tell you honestly what fits.

Can I carry an ATV or side-by-side?

Yes, as long as it fits through the door opening and the total stays under the GVWR. Measure the width and height of your machine first.

Does aluminum need any maintenance?

Less than steel, but regular washing, bearing grease, tire checks and light checks still matter.

Can I leave the sleds in it between trips?

Plenty of riders do. Make sure the trailer is locked, the coupler is secured and the sleds are reasonably dry before you close it up, so moisture doesn’t sit inside for days.

Will I need a different licence?

Towing rules vary a lot from place to place. Some areas need an extra licence class above a certain combined weight, so check with your local licensing office first.
