This 2027 83×14 dump trailer is a heavy-duty, black steel dump trailer on two axles with a 15,119 lb GVWR. The 83-inch wide bed is wider than a standard 7 ft box, which gives you more volume and makes it easier to load with a skid steer or excavator bucket.

What you get with this 83×14 dump trailer

The bed is 83 inches wide and 14 ft long, about 2.11 x 4.27 m. That’s a full contractor-size box for soil, gravel, rock, demolition debris, roofing tear-offs and green waste. At 15,119 lb (about 6,858 kg), the rating is built for serious daily work.

The hydraulic lift tips the bed so the load slides out in seconds. Back up, tip, lower and go.

Why the 83-inch width matters

A wider bed holds more material for the same length and gives a bucket more room to drop in without catching the sides. On busy job sites, that small difference speeds up every load. An 83×14 dump trailer also spreads weight a little better across the axles.

The lift uses a hydraulic cylinder powered by a battery-driven pump.

Towing an 83×14 dump trailer

The 15,119 lb GVWR includes the trailer. Read up on gross vehicle weight rating if needed. You’ll need a 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck rated for the full weight, a hitch to match and a brake controller. Load partway with heavy material and check, since a full bed of rock can go over the limit.

Dumping safely

Tip only on flat, firm ground. Open the gate first, keep people clear and never go under a raised bed without a safety prop. Line the truck and trailer up straight before lifting.

Looking after it

Keep the battery charged, check fluid and hoses, grease the hinge and lift points, and rinse the bed. Touch up paint so the steel doesn’t rust. An 83×14 dump trailer that’s kept on top of works for many years.

Mistakes to avoid

Overloading is the main one. Dumping at an angle or on a slope is next. A flat battery stops work cold. Towing with the bed partly up is the fourth.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your 83×14 dump trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

A few terms that come up when you compare any 83×14 dump trailer:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer.
Hydraulic pump: the battery-powered unit that lifts the bed.
Combo gate: a rear gate that can swing open or spread material, found on some dump trailers.
Tarp kit: a roll-over cover that keeps loads from blowing out.
Breakaway cable: applies the trailer brakes if it ever comes off the hitch.

How owners use an 83×14 dump trailer

Builders clear sites. Landscapers deliver soil and stone. Roofers haul tear-offs. Junk removal crews tip loads at the transfer station. An 83×14 dump trailer earns its keep every day.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block so it does not sink. Touch up chips before winter so rust does not get started. If the trailer sits for weeks, move it now and then so the tires do not flat-spot, and check pressures before the next trip. A coupler lock or wheel clamp is cheap insurance when your 83×14 dump trailer is parked where people can see it.

Compare other dump trailers

The 7×14 dump trailer is a similar size at 7 ft wide. The 16 ft dump trailer is galvanized and longer. For lighter work, the 5×10 dump trailer is easier to tow.

Our guide to choosing the right trailer can help.

Accessories worth adding

A roll-up tarp kit is the first thing most owners add, since many roads require loose loads to be covered. Ramps let you drive a mower or small machine into the bed. Side extensions raise the walls for bulky, light material such as mulch and leaves. A battery charger, a spare tire and a wireless remote for the lift round out a well set-up 83×14 dump trailer.

Before you buy

Think about the material you haul most, how far you tow it and what truck you drive. Check the truck tow rating and payload, and make sure your hitch can take the loaded weight. Ask us about the side height, gate style and pump setup. If you work on salted roads or near the coast, rust protection matters. With those details sorted, you will know whether this 83×14 dump trailer is the right size for your work.

Driving with a loaded dump trailer

A full bed of soil or gravel is heavy, so leave far more room to stop and brake earlier than you think you need to. Take corners slowly, since heavy loads push the truck wide. Check that the bed is fully down and the gate is latched before every trip. On rough roads, slow down so the load does not shift. Treat a loaded 83×14 dump trailer with the same respect you would give a small truck.

Common questions

What truck do I need for this 83×14 dump trailer?

Usually a 3/4-ton or 1-ton pickup rated for the full weight, with a brake controller.

How much does it hold?

It depends on side height. Ask us for the volume.

Do I need a special licence?

At this weight, many places require one. Check locally.

Can I tip on a slope?

No. Always tip on flat, firm ground so the trailer cannot roll or tip over.

What if the bed will not lift?

Check the battery first. A flat battery is the most common cause. Then check fluid and connections.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your 83×14 dump trailer.

What to check when it arrives

Raise and lower the bed, check battery, fluid, gate, lights, brakes and tires.

Matching the hitch

Ball size has to match the coupler exactly. A 2 in ball in a 2 5/16 in coupler can pop off over a bump. Check the rating stamped on the ball, the drawbar and the receiver, and go by the lowest of the three.

Ride height matters too. Your 83×14 dump trailer should sit level or a fraction nose down when hitched. If it tips back, get a drop or rise drawbar to fix it rather than living with it, because a nose-high trailer sways more and wears its tires unevenly.

Backing up without the stress

Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand left and the back of the trailer goes left. That one trick sorts out most of the confusion. Go slowly, make small corrections, and get out to look whenever you aren’t sure. Nobody minds waiting ten seconds; everybody minds a dented gate post.

Longer trailers are easier to reverse than short ones because they react more slowly, so don’t let the length of a 83×14 dump trailer put you off. Half an hour in an empty car park with a couple of cones does more than any amount of reading.

Registration and paperwork

Rules vary by country and region. Most places want trailers registered and plated, and many ask for brakes once the loaded weight passes a set limit. Some also need a separate safety inspection. Check what applies where you live before delivery so the paperwork is ready and you can use your 83×14 dump trailer straight away. We supply the documents you need from our side, including the VIN and build details, and we can answer questions about weights and ratings.
