This used gooseneck tilt trailer is a 2024 8.5×25 tilt and load trailer in black, on tandem axles, with a gooseneck hitch and a 2 5/16 in ball size listed. The tilting deck means no separate ramps, and the gooseneck makes a long trailer tow much more steadily. It is for sale now.

What you get with this used gooseneck tilt trailer

The deck is 8.5 by 25 ft, about 2.6 x 7.6 m. The deck tilts down to the ground so machines drive straight on, then levels for the road. A gooseneck hitch puts the coupling point over the truck’s rear axle, which carries weight better and turns tighter than a bumper hitch on a trailer this long.

At 2024, it’s nearly new. Ask us for photos and condition notes before buying.

Why gooseneck plus tilt

A tilt deck removes the hassle of heavy ramps, and the low loading angle suits low cars and long machines. Pair that with a gooseneck and you get stability and better weight transfer. The catch is that your truck needs a gooseneck ball in the bed; ask us if you’re not sure what you need.

Towing a used gooseneck tilt trailer

You’ll need a pickup with a gooseneck hitch rated for the loaded weight, usually a 3/4-ton or 1-ton. The gross vehicle weight rating covers trailer plus load. A proper tow hitch setup matters even more at this length.

Loading on a tilt deck

Release the tilt lock, let the deck lower, then drive on slowly. The deck tips level as the weight moves forward. Lock it, then chain the machine at four points.

Mistakes to avoid

Forgetting to relock the tilt before driving off. Also, check the cylinder or damper on a used trailer for leaks.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your used gooseneck tilt trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

Words you will see when you compare any used gooseneck tilt trailer:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer.
Gravity tilt: a deck that tips by itself once the load passes the balance point.
Power tilt: a deck raised and lowered by a hydraulic pump.
Pivot point: where the deck tilts, usually near the axles.
Deck lock: holds the deck level for travel. Always check it before driving.

How owners use a used gooseneck tilt trailer

Dealers move cars and small machines. Contractors haul scissor lifts and mini excavators. Farmers move tractors. A used gooseneck tilt trailer gives you heavy-duty convenience for less money.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block so it does not sink. Touch up chips before winter so rust does not get started. If the trailer sits for weeks, move it now and then so the tires do not flat-spot, and check pressures before the next trip. A coupler lock or wheel clamp is cheap insurance when your used gooseneck tilt trailer is parked where people can see it.

Compare other tilt trailers

For a new bumper-pull option, see the 7×22 tilt trailer. The galvanized tilt trailer resists rust. If you’d rather a deckover, the used deckover trailer is another pre-owned buy.

Still deciding? Our step-by-step guide on how to choose a trailer can help.

Accessories worth adding

Chains and binders or heavy ratchet straps suited to your machines are the basics. Wheel chocks, a spare tire and a coupler lock come next. Many owners add a front winch for machines and cars that do not run, a tongue box for straps and gloves, and LED lights on the deck for loading in the dark. These extras make a used gooseneck tilt trailer quicker and safer to use.

Before you buy

Measure your machines, check their weights with attachments and compare them with the deck size and GVWR. Confirm your truck can tow the loaded trailer and that your hitch matches the coupler. Think about how often you load. Gravity tilts suit occasional use, while power tilts make sense for daily loading or low and heavy machines. If those answers point here, this used gooseneck tilt trailer will suit you. If not, ask us and we will help you choose.

Driving with a tilt trailer

Always check that the deck is locked level before you drive. A loaded tilt deck with a tall machine raises the centre of gravity, so corner gently and brake early. Re-check chains after the first few kilometres. When you arrive, unload on level ground and keep everyone clear of the deck while it moves. Treat your used gooseneck tilt trailer like any heavy trailer and it will give you years of easy loading.

Common questions

What condition is this used gooseneck tilt trailer in?

Ask us for recent photos and notes.

What’s the GVWR?

Ask us to confirm the rating plate.

Is the tilt hydraulic?

Ask us to confirm the tilt system.

Is a tilt deck safe for low cars?

Yes. The low loading angle is one of the main reasons car owners choose a tilt deck.

Can I load from the side?

With the deck level, pallets can often be loaded from the side with a forklift.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your used gooseneck tilt trailer.

What to check when it arrives

Test the tilt, check the lock, deck, lights, brakes, bearings and tyres.

Tires and wheel bearings

Trailer tires age faster than they wear. A set can look fine on tread and still be cracked in the sidewalls after five or six years, especially if the trailer sits outside in the sun. Check the date code on the sidewall when you buy spares, and keep them at the pressure printed on the tire, not the one on your tow vehicle door.

Bearings want fresh grease about once a year or every 12,000 miles (20,000 km), whichever comes first. Feel the hubs with the back of your hand at a fuel stop. Warm is normal. Too hot to touch means stop and look before going further. A spare wheel that fits your used gooseneck tilt trailer is cheap insurance, so carry one.

Wiring and lights

Most electrical trouble on a trailer comes down to a bad ground. If a light flickers or the indicators blink at a strange speed, clean the ground point on the frame and the plug pins before buying new bulbs. A little dielectric grease on the plug keeps water out.

LED lights draw less power and last longer, but they still need a clean connection. Test everything on your used gooseneck tilt trailer with a helper before each trip. It takes thirty seconds and saves a roadside stop.

Registration and paperwork

Rules vary by country and region. Most places want trailers registered and plated, and many ask for brakes once the loaded weight passes a set limit. Some also need a separate safety inspection. Check what applies where you live before delivery so the paperwork is ready and you can use your used gooseneck tilt trailer straight away. We supply the documents you need from our side, including the VIN and build details, and we can answer questions about weights and ratings.

Backing up without the stress

Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand left and the back of the trailer goes left. That one trick sorts out most of the confusion. Go slowly, make small corrections, and get out to look whenever you aren’t sure. Nobody minds waiting ten seconds; everybody minds a dented gate post.

Longer trailers are easier to reverse than short ones because they react more slowly, so don’t let the length of a used gooseneck tilt trailer put you off. Half an hour in an empty car park with a couple of cones does more than any amount of reading.
