This 22 ft power tilt trailer is a hydraulic tilt and load model, ETL722-14K, with a 7×22 deck on tandem axles and a 14,000 lb GVWR. It’s the long version of our power tilt range, with push-button tilting and room for a machine plus attachments. It is for sale now.

What you get with this 22 ft power tilt trailer

The deck measures 7 by 22 ft, about 2.1 x 6.7 m, rated at 14,000 lb (6,350 kg). A hydraulic pump raises and lowers the deck on command, so loading a dead machine or a low car is calm and controlled. The extra length gives a gentler loading angle and space for a second item.

Why go long

Twenty-two feet lets you carry a skid steer with its bucket and a pallet fork, or a long car with room to walk around it. The longer deck also tilts to a lower angle, which helps with machines that have little ground clearance. It still fits in most yards.

Towing a 22 ft power tilt trailer

Loaded, you’ll need a 3/4-ton or 1-ton pickup and a brake controller. The gross vehicle weight rating includes the trailer. The tilt uses a hydraulic cylinder, so keep an eye on hoses and fittings.

Loading

Lower the deck with the control, drive or winch on, raise and lock. Chain at four corners.

Mistakes to avoid

Driving off with the deck not fully locked. Check the lock every time, even with a power tilt.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your 22 ft power tilt trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

Words you will see when you compare any 22 ft power tilt trailer:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer.
Gravity tilt: a deck that tips by itself once the load passes the balance point.
Power tilt: a deck raised and lowered by a hydraulic pump.
Pivot point: where the deck tilts, usually near the axles.
Deck lock: holds the deck level for travel. Always check it before driving.

How owners use a 22 ft power tilt trailer

Contractors move a track loader with attachments. Dealers carry long cars. Hire yards let customers load easily. A 22 ft power tilt trailer takes the strain out of daily loading.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block so it does not sink. Touch up chips before winter so rust does not get started. If the trailer sits for weeks, move it now and then so the tires do not flat-spot, and check pressures before the next trip. A coupler lock or wheel clamp is cheap insurance when your 22 ft power tilt trailer is parked where people can see it.

Compare other tilt trailers

The power tilt trailer is the 18 ft version. The 7×22 tilt trailer is the same size with a higher rating. For full width, see the hydraulic deckover trailer.

Accessories worth adding

Chains and binders or heavy ratchet straps suited to your machines are the basics. Wheel chocks, a spare tire and a coupler lock come next. Many owners add a front winch for machines and cars that do not run, a tongue box for straps and gloves, and LED lights on the deck for loading in the dark. These extras make a 22 ft power tilt trailer quicker and safer to use.

Before you buy

Measure your machines, check their weights with attachments and compare them with the deck size and GVWR. Confirm your truck can tow the loaded trailer and that your hitch matches the coupler. Think about how often you load. Gravity tilts suit occasional use, while power tilts make sense for daily loading or low and heavy machines. If those answers point here, this 22 ft power tilt trailer will suit you. If not, ask us and we will help you choose.

Driving with a tilt trailer

Always check that the deck is locked level before you drive. A loaded tilt deck with a tall machine raises the centre of gravity, so corner gently and brake early. Re-check chains after the first few kilometres. When you arrive, unload on level ground and keep everyone clear of the deck while it moves. Treat your 22 ft power tilt trailer like any heavy trailer and it will give you years of easy loading.

Common questions

How is this 22 ft power tilt trailer powered?

Usually an onboard battery and pump. Ask us to confirm.

Can it carry a car?

Most cars fit. Send us the model.

Is there a manual backup?

Ask us about this unit.

Is a tilt deck safe for low cars?

Yes. The low loading angle is one of the main reasons car owners choose a tilt deck.

Can I load from the side?

With the deck level, pallets can often be loaded from the side with a forklift.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your 22 ft power tilt trailer.

What to check when it arrives

Run the tilt, check hoses, battery, lock, deck, lights, brakes and tyres.

Chains, binders and straps

For machines with steel tracks or a lot of weight, use grade 70 chain and proper binders, not ratchet straps. Straps are fine for light cargo, but they stretch, fray on sharp edges and lose tension in the rain. Chain each corner of the machine to its own anchor point, angled outward, so it can’t move forward, back or sideways.

Check the tension after the first few miles. Loads settle and chains slacken a little. Keeping a spare binder and a length of chain in the toolbox of your 22 ft power tilt trailer saves a lot of trouble when one goes missing.

Looking after the deck

Wood decks are kind to tyres and tracks and easy to replace board by board. Keep them clean so water doesn’t sit under mud and rot the wood. If a board cracks or goes soft, swap it before a machine finds it. Steel decks last longer but get slippery when wet or icy, so take extra care loading in bad weather.

Every few months, check the deck bolts or screws on your 22 ft power tilt trailer and tighten any that have worked loose. Ten minutes with a socket set keeps the deck quiet and solid on the road.

Backing up without the stress

Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand left and the back of the trailer goes left. That one trick sorts out most of the confusion. Go slowly, make small corrections, and get out to look whenever you aren’t sure. Nobody minds waiting ten seconds; everybody minds a dented gate post.

Longer trailers are easier to reverse than short ones because they react more slowly, so don’t let the length of a 22 ft power tilt trailer put you off. Half an hour in an empty car park with a couple of cones does more than any amount of reading.

Tires and wheel bearings

Trailer tires age faster than they wear. A set can look fine on tread and still be cracked in the sidewalls after five or six years, especially if the trailer sits outside in the sun. Check the date code on the sidewall when you buy spares, and keep them at the pressure printed on the tire, not the one on your tow vehicle door.

Bearings want fresh grease about once a year or every 12,000 miles (20,000 km), whichever comes first. Feel the hubs with the back of your hand at a fuel stop. Warm is normal. Too hot to touch means stop and look before going further. A spare wheel that fits your 22 ft power tilt trailer is cheap insurance, so carry one.
