This 2027 7×20 aluminum trailer is the longest open aluminum trailer in our range: a silver, tandem axle model with a 7,010 lb GVWR. Twenty feet of deck means room for two full-size machines, long materials or a car, and aluminum keeps the weight and the rust down.

What you get with this 7×20 aluminum trailer

The deck is 7 ft wide and 20 ft long, about 2.1 x 6.1 m. That fits two zero-turn mowers plus trimmers and blowers, two side-by-sides nose to tail, a small car, or a long load of timber, pipe or fencing that would hang off a shorter trailer.

Long steel trailers get heavy. A 7×20 aluminum trailer stays much lighter, which leaves more of the 7,010 lb (about 3,180 kg) rating for your load and makes towing easier on your vehicle.

When 20 feet makes sense

If you’re constantly juggling what fits on a 14 or 16 ft trailer, or doing two trips to move two machines, a longer deck pays off quickly. It also lets you spread weight properly instead of cramming everything over the axles.

The trade-off is length when parking and turning. Measure your driveway and think about job sites before you commit. If space is fine, a 7×20 aluminum trailer is one of the most flexible open trailers you can own.

Hauling a car on an open deck

A 20 ft deck fits most small and mid-size cars. Check the car’s width against the space between the fenders, and use wheel nets or axle straps rather than strapping through suspension. This overview of car carrier trailers explains the different types if you’re comparing options. For cars you want protected from weather, an enclosed trailer is better.

Towing a 7×20 aluminum trailer

The 7,010 lb GVWR covers trailer and load. Read up on gross vehicle weight rating if needed. Use a vehicle rated for the loaded weight and a brake controller. Keep about 60 percent of the load ahead of the axles. Long trailers track wide in corners, so swing out a little more than usual.

Looking after it

Wash it after salty roads, keep the steel running gear clean, grease the bearings once a year and check brakes and tires before long trips. Test the lights every time you hook up your 7×20 aluminum trailer.

Mistakes to avoid

Loading the back half heavy is the big one on a long trailer. The second is cutting corners too tight. The third is overloading because the deck has space, and the fourth is skipping the brake check.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your 7×20 aluminum trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

A few words you will see when you compare any 7×20 aluminum trailer with other models:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer. This is what you can actually carry.
Tongue weight: the downward weight on your hitch, usually about 10 to 15 percent of the loaded weight.
Coupler: the part on the front of the trailer that locks onto your hitch ball.
Ramp gate: the rear gate that folds down so you can drive machines on.
Tandem axle: two axles that share the load and make the trailer more stable.

How owners use a 7×20 aluminum trailer

Lawn crews run two-mower setups. Side-by-side owners carry two machines for group rides. Builders haul long timber and steel. Car enthusiasts move project cars. A 7×20 aluminum trailer handles all of it.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block. Aluminum does not rust, but the steel axles, hubs and springs still like to stay out of standing water. Move the trailer now and then so the tires do not flat-spot. Keep wet leaves and mulch off the deck. A coupler lock keeps your 7×20 aluminum trailer where you left it.

Compare other long trailers

The 7×16 aluminum trailer is shorter and easier to park. The 80×16 utility trailer is wider. For heavier loads in steel, the 7×18 utility trailer has a 9,900 lb rating.

Our practical guide to choosing a trailer can help you compare.

Planning your loads

A long deck tempts you to fill it, so plan by weight first. Two big mowers, trimmers, blowers and fuel can add up to well over a tonne. A car can be more. Keep the heaviest item just ahead of the axles and lighter items toward the back, and make sure the total stays inside the GVWR after subtracting the trailer weight. Balanced properly, a 7×20 aluminum trailer tows straight and calm even on long trips, and you will be glad of the extra length every time you load.

Accessories worth adding

A few cheap extras make an open trailer much more useful. Ratchet straps and wheel chocks keep machines and loads in place. A cargo net or tarp stops garden waste and light items blowing out. A spare wheel and a jack that fits the trailer can save a ruined day. A coupler lock stops anyone hitching up and driving off with your 7×20 aluminum trailer. Lawn crews often add a trimmer rack or a lockable tongue box for fuel and hand tools.

Before you buy

Check your vehicle tow rating and hitch ball size first. Then think about the heaviest load you carry most weeks, not the biggest job you do once a year, and measure the widest machine you plan to put on the deck. Finally, measure where you will park the trailer at home, including the tongue. If all of that lines up, this 7×20 aluminum trailer will fit the way you work. If you are not sure, send us your vehicle and what you plan to carry and we will give you a straight answer.

Driving with a trailer

Give yourself more room to stop, because a loaded trailer adds a lot of weight behind you. Take corners a little wider so the trailer wheels do not clip the kerb. On the motorway, keep a steady speed and avoid sudden steering. If the trailer starts to sway, ease off the accelerator gently and keep the wheel straight rather than braking hard. When reversing, small movements of the wheel go a long way. Practise in an empty car park the first few times you tow your 7×20 aluminum trailer, and it soon feels normal.

Common questions

Can I carry a car on this 7×20 aluminum trailer?

Many cars fit. Check width and weight and strap the wheels, not the suspension.

What can tow it?

A half-ton pickup or large SUV with the right rating and a brake controller.

Will two zero-turns fit?

Usually yes, nose to tail. Measure your mowers to be sure.

Does it need registration?

Rules vary by country and region. Check locally.

Is a 20 ft trailer hard to reverse?

Long trailers are actually easier to reverse than short ones, because they react more slowly. Take your time the first few goes.

Can I leave it outside?

Yes. Keep it on firm ground, check the tires before use and lock the coupler if it is visible from the road.

How often should I grease the bearings?

Once a year for most owners, or sooner if the trailer has been in deep water or does a lot of distance.

Do you offer delivery?
