This 6×14 tilt trailer is a single axle gravity tilt model, TL614-5K, with a 5,000 lb GVWR. It’s the 14 ft version of our smallest tilt trailer, so you get two extra feet of deck for a mower plus tools, or a longer machine. It is for sale now.

What you get with this 6×14 tilt trailer

The deck is 6 by 14 ft, roughly 1.8 x 4.3 m, on a single axle rated at 5,000 lb (2,268 kg). The gravity tilt means no ramps and no hydraulics. Two extra feet over a 6×12 might not sound like much, but it’s room for a push mower, a trimmer rack or fuel cans alongside your main machine.

Single axle advantages

A single axle trailer is light, easy to move by hand in a yard, and cheap to run: one pair of tyres, one set of bearings. It also turns tightly. The limit is weight, so keep an eye on the 5,000 lb rating. If you regularly load near it, look at a tandem model.

Towing a 6×14 tilt trailer

Most mid-size pickups and SUVs rated for the loaded weight tow it well. The gross vehicle weight rating includes the trailer. Make sure your tow hitch and ball match the coupler.

Loading

Unlock, drive on slowly, let the deck level, lock it, and strap at four corners. Keep the heavy machine just ahead of the axle.

Mistakes to avoid

Loading the mower at the very back to leave room for tools in front. Do it the other way round.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed
Lights and indicators working
Tire pressures right, wheel nuts tight
Load strapped down and balanced, heavy items forward
Jack fully raised

It takes two minutes before each trip with your 6×14 tilt trailer, and it catches most problems while you are still in the driveway.

Trailer terms explained

Words you will see when you compare any 6×14 tilt trailer:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer.
Gravity tilt: a deck that tips by itself once the load passes the balance point.
Power tilt: a deck raised and lowered by a hydraulic pump.
Pivot point: where the deck tilts, usually near the axles.
Deck lock: holds the deck level for travel. Always check it before driving.

How owners use a 6×14 tilt trailer

Lawn crews carry a ride-on, a push mower and trimmers. Families move ATVs to the trails. A 6×14 tilt trailer is a light, practical everyday trailer.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block so it does not sink. Touch up chips before winter so rust does not get started. If the trailer sits for weeks, move it now and then so the tires do not flat-spot, and check pressures before the next trip. A coupler lock or wheel clamp is cheap insurance when your 6×14 tilt trailer is parked where people can see it.

Compare other tilt trailers

The gravity tilt trailer is the 12 ft version. The 7000 lb tilt trailer carries more. For bigger machines, see the 7×20 tilt trailer.

Accessories worth adding

Chains and binders or heavy ratchet straps suited to your machines are the basics. Wheel chocks, a spare tire and a coupler lock come next. Many owners add a front winch for machines and cars that do not run, a tongue box for straps and gloves, and LED lights on the deck for loading in the dark. These extras make a 6×14 tilt trailer quicker and safer to use.

Before you buy

Measure your machines, check their weights with attachments and compare them with the deck size and GVWR. Confirm your truck can tow the loaded trailer and that your hitch matches the coupler. Think about how often you load. Gravity tilts suit occasional use, while power tilts make sense for daily loading or low and heavy machines. If those answers point here, this 6×14 tilt trailer will suit you. If not, ask us and we will help you choose.

Driving with a tilt trailer

Always check that the deck is locked level before you drive. A loaded tilt deck with a tall machine raises the centre of gravity, so corner gently and brake early. Re-check chains after the first few kilometres. When you arrive, unload on level ground and keep everyone clear of the deck while it moves. Treat your 6×14 tilt trailer like any heavy trailer and it will give you years of easy loading.

Common questions

Will a zero-turn mower fit on this 6×14 tilt trailer?

Most residential and many commercial ones. Send us the deck width.

Does it have brakes?

Ask us to confirm.

Can one person load it?

Yes, that’s the point of a tilt deck.

Is a tilt deck safe for low cars?

Yes. The low loading angle is one of the main reasons car owners choose a tilt deck.

Can I load from the side?

With the deck level, pallets can often be loaded from the side with a forklift.

Do you offer delivery?

What to check when it arrives

Test the tilt and lock, check deck, lights and tyres.

Tires and wheel bearings

Trailer tires age faster than they wear. A set can look fine on tread and still be cracked in the sidewalls after five or six years, especially if the trailer sits outside in the sun. Check the date code on the sidewall when you buy spares, and keep them at the pressure printed on the tire, not the one on your tow vehicle door.

Bearings want fresh grease about once a year or every 12,000 miles (20,000 km), whichever comes first. Feel the hubs with the back of your hand at a fuel stop. Warm is normal. Too hot to touch means stop and look before going further. A spare wheel that fits your 6×14 tilt trailer is cheap insurance, so carry one.

Wiring and lights

Most electrical trouble on a trailer comes down to a bad ground. If a light flickers or the indicators blink at a strange speed, clean the ground point on the frame and the plug pins before buying new bulbs. A little dielectric grease on the plug keeps water out.

LED lights draw less power and last longer, but they still need a clean connection. Test everything on your 6×14 tilt trailer with a helper before each trip. It takes thirty seconds and saves a roadside stop.

Looking after the deck

Wood decks are kind to tyres and tracks and easy to replace board by board. Keep them clean so water doesn’t sit under mud and rot the wood. If a board cracks or goes soft, swap it before a machine finds it. Steel decks last longer but get slippery when wet or icy, so take extra care loading in bad weather.

Every few months, check the deck bolts or screws on your 6×14 tilt trailer and tighten any that have worked loose. Ten minutes with a socket set keeps the deck quiet and solid on the road.

Matching the hitch

Ball size has to match the coupler exactly. A 2 in ball in a 2 5/16 in coupler can pop off over a bump. Check the rating stamped on the ball, the drawbar and the receiver, and go by the lowest of the three.

Ride height matters too. Your 6×14 tilt trailer should sit level or a fraction nose down when hitched. If it tips back, get a drop or rise drawbar to fix it rather than living with it, because a nose-high trailer sways more and wears its tires unevenly.

Backing up without the stress

Put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel. Move your hand left and the back of the trailer goes left. That one trick sorts out most of the confusion. Go slowly, make small corrections, and get out to look whenever you aren’t sure. Nobody minds waiting ten seconds; everybody minds a dented gate post.

Longer trailers are easier to reverse than short ones because they react more slowly, so don’t let the length of a 6×14 tilt trailer put you off. Half an hour in an empty car park with a couple of cones does more than any amount of reading.
