This 2026 6×12 aluminum trailer is a silver, single axle open trailer with a 2,996 lb GVWR. It’s light enough to tow behind a lot of SUVs and crossovers, big enough for a mower and gear or a pair of ATVs, and it won’t rust out after a few wet winters.

What you get with this 6×12 aluminum trailer

The deck is 6 ft wide and 12 ft long, about 1.8 x 3.7 m. Six feet between the rails clears most ride-on mowers, quads and garden tractors. Twelve feet of length means you can carry a mower plus a trimmer rack, a load of timber, or a full room of furniture.

Being aluminum, the trailer weighs much less than a steel one of the same size. That makes it easier to tow, easier to move around by hand and kinder to smaller vehicles. The silver finish is the metal itself, so there’s no paint to chip or touch up.

Why a 6×12 aluminum trailer makes sense

The 2,996 lb rating is the total for trailer and load. On a steel trailer, a big chunk of that goes to the trailer’s own weight. On a 6×12 aluminum trailer, the empty weight is lower, so more of the rating is left for what you’re actually carrying.

Aluminium also forms its own protective layer, so the frame and deck don’t rust. Road salt and rain are far less of a worry. The axle, hubs and springs underneath are still steel and need normal care.

Towing a 6×12 aluminum trailer

If you’re new to towing, it’s worth reading about gross vehicle weight rating. Check your vehicle’s tow limit and add the trailer’s empty weight to your load before you set off.

Put about 60 percent of the load ahead of the axle. A light trailer can feel twitchy if it’s loaded tail-heavy, so balance matters. Match your hitch ball to the coupler and cross the safety chains under the tongue.

Loading two ATVs or a mower

For two quads, load the first one forward and to one side, then the second behind it. Strap each at four points. For a mower, drive up slowly and straight in low gear, park it just ahead of the axle and put trimmers and fuel behind it. Never stand beside the gate while a machine is climbing.

Looking after it

Wash it now and then, especially after salted roads. Grease the wheel bearings once a year, check tire pressure before long trips and test the lights every time you hook up your 6×12 aluminum trailer. Keep the gate hinges free of dirt.

Mistakes to avoid

Thinking light means you can load more than the rating is the big one. The GVWR still applies.

Loading too much at the back is another, since a light trailer sways more easily. The third is loose straps. The fourth is soft tires after the trailer has been sitting.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed
Lights and indicators working
Tire pressures right, wheel nuts tight
Load strapped down and balanced, heavy items forward
Jack fully raised

It takes two minutes before each trip with your 6×12 aluminum trailer, and it catches most problems while you are still in the driveway.

Trailer terms explained

A few words you will see when you compare any 6×12 aluminum trailer with other models:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer. This is what you can actually carry.
Tongue weight: the downward weight on your hitch, usually about 10 to 15 percent of the loaded weight.
Coupler: the part on the front of the trailer that locks onto your hitch ball.
Ramp gate: the rear gate that folds down so you can drive machines on.
Tandem axle: two axles that share the load and make the trailer more stable.

How owners use a 6×12 aluminum trailer

Quad riders take two machines to the trails. Homeowners run mowers between properties. DIY renovators carry timber and waste. Families use a 6×12 aluminum trailer to move house or head off camping with bikes and gear.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block. Aluminum does not rust, but the steel axles, hubs and springs still like to stay out of standing water. Move the trailer now and then so the tires do not flat-spot. Keep wet leaves and mulch off the deck. A coupler lock keeps your 6×12 aluminum trailer where you left it.

Compare other aluminum trailers

The 2027 single axle aluminum trailer is the newer 6×12 model. For more length on two axles, the 7×16 aluminum trailer is a good step up. For smaller jobs, the 5×10 aluminum trailer is easier to store.

Is 6×12 the right size?

Six by twelve sits in the sweet spot for a lot of people. It is wide enough for a ride-on mower or two quads, long enough for timber and furniture, and still light enough in aluminum to tow behind a crossover. If you only ever carry garden waste, a 5×8 or 5×10 costs less. If you carry two machines plus gear most weekends, a 7×14 or 7×16 on two axles will feel calmer on the road. For everyone in between, a 6×12 aluminum trailer is a very easy trailer to live with, and it holds its value well when you eventually sell it.

Accessories worth adding

A few cheap extras make an open trailer much more useful. Ratchet straps and wheel chocks keep machines and loads in place. A cargo net or tarp stops garden waste and light items blowing out. A spare wheel and a jack that fits the trailer can save a ruined day. A coupler lock stops anyone hitching up and driving off with your 6×12 aluminum trailer. Lawn crews often add a trimmer rack or a lockable tongue box for fuel and hand tools.

Before you buy

Check your vehicle tow rating and hitch ball size first. Then think about the heaviest load you carry most weeks, not the biggest job you do once a year, and measure the widest machine you plan to put on the deck. Finally, measure where you will park the trailer at home, including the tongue. If all of that lines up, this 6×12 aluminum trailer will fit the way you work. If you are not sure, send us your vehicle and what you plan to carry and we will give you a straight answer.

Driving with a trailer

Give yourself more room to stop, because a loaded trailer adds a lot of weight behind you. Take corners a little wider so the trailer wheels do not clip the kerb. On the motorway, keep a steady speed and avoid sudden steering. If the trailer starts to sway, ease off the accelerator gently and keep the wheel straight rather than braking hard. When reversing, small movements of the wheel go a long way. Practise in an empty car park the first few times you tow your 6×12 aluminum trailer, and it soon feels normal.

Common questions

Can a crossover tow this 6×12 aluminum trailer?

Many can, with a hitch and enough tow rating for the trailer plus your load. Check your manual.

Will two ATVs fit?

Two standard quads usually fit nose to tail. Measure yours to be sure.

Does it need painting?

No. That’s a big reason to choose aluminum.

Does it need registration?

Rules vary by country and region, so check locally.

Can I leave it outside?

Yes. Keep it on firm ground, check the tires before use and lock the coupler if it is visible from the road.

How often should I grease the bearings?

Once a year for most owners, or sooner if the trailer has been in deep water or does a lot of distance.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your 6×12 aluminum trailer, and we will explain the options and timing.

What to check when it arrives

Check the lights, coupler fit, tire pressures and wheel nuts, and work the gate a few times. Re-check wheel nuts after the first 50 to 100 km.
