This 2026 aluminum cargo trailer is a 6×10 enclosed model in black with a rear ramp door, 78 inches of interior height and a 2,990 lb GVWR. It gives you a lockable, weatherproof box that’s light enough to tow behind a lot of everyday vehicles.

What you get with this aluminum cargo trailer

Inside you have about 6 by 10 feet of floor, roughly 1.8 x 3.0 m, with a 78-inch (about 2 m) ceiling. That’s room for a motorbike or two, a ride-on mower, a load of tools and stock, or the contents of a small room when you move. Most adults can stand up straight inside, which makes loading a lot less painful.

The rear ramp door folds down so you can roll things in. Mowers, bikes, dollies and carts go straight up the ramp instead of being lifted. When it’s closed, it seals the back of the trailer like a door.

Why choose an aluminum cargo trailer

Weight is the big reason. An aluminum cargo trailer is lighter than a steel one of the same size, so more of the 2,990 lb rating goes to your cargo instead of the trailer. That also means easier towing, less strain on smaller vehicles and better fuel use.

The second reason is rust. Aluminium doesn’t rust the way steel does, so the frame and skin stay sound after years of rain, snow and road salt. Steel parts like axles and hubs still need care, but the box itself holds up well.

It costs more than steel up front. For a trailer you’ll keep for years and tow often, an aluminum cargo trailer usually pays that back in lower running costs and better resale value.

Towing and weight

The 2,990 lb GVWR (about 1,356 kg) is the most the trailer and everything inside should weigh together. Read up on how GVWR works if you’re new to towing, and check your vehicle’s tow rating before you load up.

Load heavier items low and slightly ahead of the axle. Enclosed trailers catch wind, so take it easy on open roads on gusty days. Good mirrors help a lot, since you can’t see through the box.

Using the ramp door

Lower the ramp on firm, level ground. Push or ride things up slowly and straight. For motorbikes, a wheel chock bolted to the front wall makes loading easy and keeps the bike upright while you strap it. Close the ramp and check the latches before you drive off.

Keep the ramp hinges and spring assist clean and lightly oiled. A ramp that’s hard to lift usually just needs a bit of attention.

Setting up the inside

E-track rails on the walls are one of the most useful upgrades for an aluminum cargo trailer. Straps, shelves, bike chocks and hooks clip on and move wherever you need them. A battery LED light makes loading at night much easier, and a rubber floor mat stops things sliding around.

Looking after it

Check the roof seams and door seals once or twice a year. Wash the underside after salty roads, grease the bearings once a year and check tire pressure before long trips. Test the lights every time you hook up. A coupler lock and a padlock on the latch keep the trailer and your gear where they belong.

Mistakes to avoid

Loading the back first is a common one. It’s natural to fill from the ramp forward, but that can leave heavy things behind the axle and make the trailer sway. Put heavy items in first, at the front.

Not tying things down is another. Even inside an aluminum cargo trailer, a loose toolbox can slide and dent the walls. The last is forgetting the height at car parks and drive-throughs.

How owners use it

Riders take bikes to tracks and trails. Electricians and plumbers use it as a rolling store room. Market traders and caterers keep stock locked in overnight. Families use an aluminum cargo trailer to move house without hiring a truck, and some convert one into a small camper or workshop.

Compare other enclosed trailers

Need more room? The 6×12 enclosed cargo trailer adds two feet and barn doors. The 7×16 cargo trailer with rear ramp is much bigger, on two axles. For winter toys, look at our aluminum snowmobile trailer.

Accessories worth adding

For an aluminum cargo trailer this size, the best upgrades are cheap: E-track rails, a few ratchet straps, a front wheel chock for motorbikes, a battery LED light and a rubber floor mat. A coupler lock and a disc lock on the latch keep the trailer and its contents secure. If you carry tools every day, a couple of wall shelves and some hooks turn it into a tidy mobile store room.

Using it for a house move

Load heavy furniture first, against the front wall, and keep the weight low and centred. Wrap furniture in blankets and stand mattresses and table tops on their edges along the walls. Fill gaps with boxes so nothing can slide. Strap each section as you go rather than at the end. A 6×10 box holds more than people expect, and it’s much cheaper than hiring a removal truck for a small flat or a single room.

Pre-trip checklist

Before every trip in your aluminum cargo trailer, run through this:

Coupler latched and pinned, chains crossed
Lights and indicators working
Tire pressures right, wheel nuts tight
Ramp closed and latched
Load tied down, heavy items forward

Storing your aluminum cargo trailer

Park on level ground with the jack on a block. If it sits for weeks, crack a vent so moisture doesn’t build up inside, and move it now and then so the tires don’t flat-spot. Check the roof and door seals before winter. An aluminum cargo trailer handles weather well, but keeping water out of the floor is what makes it last.

Trailer terms explained

A few terms that come up when you buy an aluminum cargo trailer.

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the trailer’s empty weight. This is what you can actually carry.
Tongue weight: the downward weight on your hitch, usually around 10 to 15 percent of the loaded weight on a bumper pull trailer.
Single axle: one axle, which keeps the trailer light, cheap to run and easy to move by hand.
Coupler: the part on the front of the trailer that locks onto your hitch ball.
Breakaway cable: a cable that applies the trailer brakes if it ever comes off the hitch.

Before you buy

Write down what you will carry most often, then measure the biggest item. Check your vehicle tow rating and hitch size, and make sure you have somewhere to park the trailer at home. If you plan to carry motorbikes, measure the bike length and handlebar width. With those numbers in hand, it is easy to tell if this 6×10 box is right or if you need the next size up.

Common questions

Can a small SUV tow this aluminum cargo trailer?

Many can, as long as the tow rating covers the loaded weight. Check your manual.

Will a motorbike fit?

Most road and dirt bikes fit easily. Measure the length and handlebar width and compare them with the inside of the trailer.

Can I add shelves or a side door?

Shelves and E-track are easy to add. For bigger changes, ask us before you order.

Does it need registration?

That depends on your country or region. Check with your local road authority.

Is it waterproof?

Enclosed trailers keep out rain and road spray very well. Check the seals once or twice a year so it stays that way.

What to check when it arrives

Lower and raise the ramp a few times. Check the latches, seals, floor and lights, set tire pressures and check the wheel nuts. Ask for the bearing service interval and keep the paperwork safe.
