This 2027 5×10 dump trailer is a compact, black steel dump trailer on two axles with a 7,700 lb GVWR. It brings the convenience of a hydraulic tipping bed to homeowners, small landscapers and property owners who don’t need, or can’t tow, a big contractor-size dump trailer.

What you get with this 5×10 dump trailer

The bed is 5 ft wide and 10 ft long, about 1.5 x 3.0 m. That’s a useful size for soil, mulch, gravel, garden waste, demolition rubble from a bathroom renovation, or junk from a clearout. Two axles carry the 7,700 lb (about 3,493 kg) rating, which is generous for a trailer this size and gives you room to haul heavier materials.

The hydraulic lift tips the bed so the load slides out the back. No shovelling, no tipping by hand.

Why a small dump trailer makes sense

Big dump trailers need big trucks. A 5×10 dump trailer is easier to tow, easier to park and easier to back into a garden or driveway, but it still saves hours of shovelling. For anyone doing regular yard work or renovation, it pays for itself quickly in time and skip-bin hire costs.

The lift works with a hydraulic cylinder driven by a battery-powered pump, so dumping is quick and controlled.

Towing a 5×10 dump trailer

The 7,700 lb GVWR includes the trailer itself. Read up on gross vehicle weight rating if needed, and check your vehicle’s towing limit. A loaded dump trailer is heavy for its size, so you’ll want a pickup or large SUV rated for the weight, plus a brake controller.

Dumping safely

Tip on flat, firm ground only. Open the gate first and keep people clear. Never go under a raised bed unless it’s propped with a safety bar. Lower the bed fully before driving away.

Looking after it

Keep the battery charged, check the hydraulic fluid and hoses, grease the hinge points and rinse the bed after messy jobs. Touch up paint chips to keep rust away. A 5×10 dump trailer that’s looked after lasts for years.

Mistakes to avoid

Overloading with wet soil or gravel is the main one. Tipping on a slope is dangerous. A flat battery leaves you with a full bed. Driving with the bed slightly raised damages the trailer.

Pre-trip checklist

Coupler latched and pinned, safety chains crossed and hooked
Breakaway cable clipped to the vehicle, not to the chains
Trailer brakes tested at walking speed
All lights and indicators working
Tire pressures and wheel nuts checked
Load chained or strapped, weight just ahead of the axles
Jack raised and ramps or doors secured

Run through this every time you hook up your 5×10 dump trailer. Then check the load again after the first few kilometres, because things settle.

Trailer terms explained

A few terms that come up when you compare any 5×10 dump trailer:

GVWR: the most the trailer and its load can weigh together.
Payload: the GVWR minus the empty weight of the trailer.
Hydraulic pump: the battery-powered unit that lifts the bed.
Combo gate: a rear gate that can swing open or spread material, found on some dump trailers.
Tarp kit: a roll-over cover that keeps loads from blowing out.
Breakaway cable: applies the trailer brakes if it ever comes off the hitch.

How owners use a 5×10 dump trailer

Homeowners move soil and mulch for garden projects. Renovators clear rubble. Small landscapers haul green waste. Hobby farmers move manure and bedding. A 5×10 dump trailer handles all of these without a big truck.

Storing it

Park on firm, level ground with the jack on a block so it does not sink. Touch up chips before winter so rust does not get started. If the trailer sits for weeks, move it now and then so the tires do not flat-spot, and check pressures before the next trip. A coupler lock or wheel clamp is cheap insurance when your 5×10 dump trailer is parked where people can see it.

Compare other dump trailers

The galvanized dump trailer is a 6×12 with better rust protection. The 7×14 dump trailer and the 83×14 dump trailer are full contractor sizes.

Accessories worth adding

A roll-up tarp kit is the first thing most owners add, since many roads require loose loads to be covered. Ramps let you drive a mower or small machine into the bed. Side extensions raise the walls for bulky, light material such as mulch and leaves. A battery charger, a spare tire and a wireless remote for the lift round out a well set-up 5×10 dump trailer.

Before you buy

Think about the material you haul most, how far you tow it and what truck you drive. Check the truck tow rating and payload, and make sure your hitch can take the loaded weight. Ask us about the side height, gate style and pump setup. If you work on salted roads or near the coast, rust protection matters. With those details sorted, you will know whether this 5×10 dump trailer is the right size for your work.

Driving with a loaded dump trailer

A full bed of soil or gravel is heavy, so leave far more room to stop and brake earlier than you think you need to. Take corners slowly, since heavy loads push the truck wide. Check that the bed is fully down and the gate is latched before every trip. On rough roads, slow down so the load does not shift. Treat a loaded 5×10 dump trailer with the same respect you would give a small truck.

Common questions

Can an SUV tow this 5×10 dump trailer?

A large SUV with the right tow rating can, but check the loaded weight carefully.

How much does it hold?

It depends on the side height. Ask us for the volume, and remember weight usually runs out first.

Do I need a special licence?

Rules vary by country and region. Check locally.

Can I tip on a slope?

No. Always tip on flat, firm ground so the trailer cannot roll or tip over.

What if the bed will not lift?

Check the battery first. A flat battery is the most common cause. Then check fluid and connections.

Do you offer delivery?

Ask us about delivery to your area when you order your 5×10 dump trailer.

What to check when it arrives

Raise and lower the bed, check the battery, fluid, gate, lights, brakes and tires.

Tires and wheel bearings

Trailer tires age faster than they wear. A set can look fine on tread and still be cracked in the sidewalls after five or six years, especially if the trailer sits outside in the sun. Check the date code on the sidewall when you buy spares, and keep them at the pressure printed on the tire, not the one on your tow vehicle door.

Bearings want fresh grease about once a year or every 12,000 miles (20,000 km), whichever comes first. Feel the hubs with the back of your hand at a fuel stop. Warm is normal. Too hot to touch means stop and look before going further. A spare wheel that fits your 5×10 dump trailer is cheap insurance, so carry one.

Parking and storing between jobs

Park on firm, level ground where you can. Chock a wheel on both sides if the ground slopes even slightly, and put a board under the jack foot on soft soil or hot asphalt so it doesn’t sink. A coupler lock costs little and stops the easiest kind of theft.

Lift the tongue a touch higher than the back so rain runs off instead of pooling. If your 5×10 dump trailer will sit for months, take some weight off the tires with stands and cover the coupler so it doesn’t fill with grit.

Registration and paperwork

Rules vary by country and region. Most places want trailers registered and plated, and many ask for brakes once the loaded weight passes a set limit. Some also need a separate safety inspection. Check what applies where you live before delivery so the paperwork is ready and you can use your 5×10 dump trailer straight away. We supply the documents you need from our side, including the VIN and build details, and we can answer questions about weights and ratings.
